Budget Natural Onsen in Hiroshima: The Real Cost of a Soak

Yunoyama Onsenkan has the lowest confirmed adult entry price. Ondo is easier from downtown, while Yuki Lodge offers an outdoor spring-water bath and sauna but takes a long bus ride from Itsukaichi. The table compares admission with the main access trade-off.

Across Hiroshima, the cheapest ticket does not always make the cheapest outing. Distance, return transport and which baths the ticket covers can matter more than a small difference at the door.

Ujina Honoyu belongs in the comparison only with a distinction: its ¥500 bath-only ticket excludes the outdoor baths, sauna and cold plunge, including the outdoor source and rock baths described as natural spring baths. Lowest entry price: Yunoyama, if the journey already makes sense

Yunoyama Onsenkan keeps the maths simple. Adults pay ¥450 for one visit, or ¥800 for a day ticket. The spring is classified as a simple weakly radioactive spring. Its signature waterfall bath is fed by 23.5°C source water; the indoor bath is heated to 41°C. Bring a towel: the operator lists standard bathing amenities but does not publish a current towel price on the facility page.

From Hiroshima Station, take the train to Itsukaichi and a local bus toward Yuki Onsen, getting off at Ohashi. Yunoyama Onsenkan is another 20 minutes on foot. By car, the regional association gives about 40 minutes from either Itsukaichi or Togouchi interchange; parking is nearby.

That bus ride and final walk are a lot of effort for a small saving over a city-side bath. Yunoyama makes more sense when you are already exploring Yuki or specifically want its cold source-water cascade.

The operator lists 9 a.m. opening year-round, with closing at 9 p.m. in summer and 8 p.m. in winter; last admission is 30 minutes earlier. It closes irregularly for maintenance, so call before making it the anchor of a long bus day.

A downtown soak: Ondo’s posted price needs a date attached

Ondo Onsen sits in Hiroshima’s Tanaka-cho nightlife district, about eight minutes on foot from Hucho tram stop. The spring is drawn from roughly 850 metres underground and is classified as sodium chloride water. Its late 1 p.m.–1 a.m. schedule and central address make it a practical option for guests staying around Yagenbori, Nagarekawa or Hatchobori.

Bring a small towel and soap; the older set price may no longer apply. Confirm the counter price if it changes your budget.

For an actual natural spring after a late dinner, this is usually a better budget calculation than travelling across the city for a cheaper admission ticket. If the plan needs several bath types, an outdoor pool or a lounge, compare the larger Ujina and Rakurakuen Honoyu branches instead.

Yuki Lodge is the clearest price-plus-facilities calculation

Yuki Lodge’s admission includes both public and outdoor spring-water baths. The source is 28.3°C with a listed pH of 9.0; it is heated for bathing and circulated without adding water. There are high-temperature dry and mist saunas. The men’s and women’s sides alternate between the hinoki and marble bathhouses by date.

The bus from Itsukaichi takes around 75–76 minutes each way. An adult using both towel rentals and travelling by bus pays about ¥3,150 before food. The free Hiroshima Station shuttle is reserved for overnight guests; day visitors need the paid bus.

The return connection sets the pace. Yuki Lodge says the final bus back to Itsukaichi leaves at 7:30 p.m. on weekdays and 6:40 p.m. on weekends and public holidays, earlier than the bath’s seasonal closing. Check the current Hiroden timetable before you go. A car makes the lodge much easier to fit into a day; the operator lists 120 free parking spaces and recommends approaching from Itsukaichi rather than taking a narrow route from Hatsukaichi.

Two low-cost baths for days already spent out of town

Kurahashi Katsuragahama Onsenkan’s “gold bath” uses undiluted Kurahashi spring water drawn from 1,650 metres underground. It also has a sauna and other bath styles. From Kure Station, allow about 70 minutes by Hiroshima Electric Railway bus. This is a better fit when Kurahashi or Kure is already on the route than for a quick soak from central Hiroshima.

Takamiya Yunomori has a natural radon spring, outdoor baths, carbonated water, an herbal bath and two sauna styles. Toiletries and a hair dryer are supplied; payment is cash only. The access page gives road directions but no local public-transport itinerary, so plan to drive or arrange a ride.

The Miyajima-side option: keep the ticket rules attached

Ryokan Kanzaki’s public bath uses natural spring water; its private bath does not. The day-use window differs from the inn’s general bathing hours, and Miyahama Onsen posts week-by-week schedules that can limit children’s admission or shorten opening hours. Check the current notice before leaving Miyajima or Miyajimaguchi.

Which price is actually the cheapest?

Yunoyama has the smallest admission fee. Ondo is the stronger low-cost choice for a downtown stay because it avoids a long bus journey. For a ¥750 bath that includes outdoor spring bathing and sauna access, Yuki Lodge is the easiest facility to cost out, but not the cheapest car-free outing. Kurahashi and Takamiya are good-value regional stops if you are already in those areas. Kanzaki keeps the Miyajima-side admission modest, provided its weekly day-use schedule works.

If towels or toiletries matter, add them before comparing. More importantly, decide from the day’s base: saving ¥300 on the admission can disappear once you pay for an extra hour on the bus—or lose half a day waiting for the next one.
