Shirasagi-no-Yu in Gero: 2026 Prices, Bath Rules and What to Bring

Shirasagi-no-Yu makes sense if you want a straightforward soak in central Gero without paying for a hotel day-use plan. The 2026 adult admission is ¥470; there is one indoor hinoki bath, no outdoor pool, and no complimentary shampoo or body wash. Bring a towel and toiletries, or buy disposable items at the counter.

Current hours and admission

The bath is open from 10am to 8:45pm, with last admission at 8pm. Wednesday is the usual closing day; if Wednesday is a public holiday, the closure moves to Friday. Check the facility's notices before heading over, since special opening-day changes can occur.

The white Romanesque-style exterior and wooden interior date to a public-bath tradition that began in 1926. Inside, the main feature is a spacious hinoki tub that can accommodate more than ten bathers. Shirasagi-no-Yu has no outdoor bath or listed sauna. The washing-area floor is tatami, a distinctive feature compared with the tile or stone common in public baths.

Plan for the changing-room route

The usual route runs from the second-floor changing room down to the first-floor bath. The facility has a separate accessible changing room on the first floor for visitors who have difficulty using the stairs. Ask the staff in advance if you need a particular transfer, wheelchair or companion arrangement; tatami in the bathing area does not make the whole building step-free.

The bath uses Gero's centrally managed spring supply. Its current information lists alkaline simple spring water, pH 9.1, a source temperature of 55.6°C and a use-point temperature of 42.2°C. Those are readings at different points in the system; 55.6°C is not the tub temperature. The facility says 12 springs are blended for distribution around town. That does not mean this bath has twelve separate pools or its own twelve wells.

Towels, toiletries and payment

There is no complimentary shampoo or body wash. Small, single-use toiletries are sold at reception, but the official page does not give a fixed price for each item. Towels are sold rather than rented, and the dryer is free. Cashless payment is not currently supported, so bring yen in cash.

The simplest budget is ¥470 plus any items you need to buy. Bring a small and a bath towel, shampoo and body wash if you want to avoid uncertain counter purchases.

The front-of-house dryer is free. If you only have a short gap or the bath is closed, the free Venus Foot Bath outside is an easy pause; bring a small towel to dry your feet. It is a footbath, not a substitute for a full soak.

Walking and parking information does not line up perfectly

The operator gives a walk of about 12 minutes from JR Gero Station; the Gero tourism association lists about seven minutes. Allow 10–15 minutes rather than planning a tight train connection. The tourism association lists seven parking spaces.

The operator's current parking information says the first hour is free. From 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., parking costs ¥100 per 20 minutes; overnight, it costs ¥50 per 20 minutes.

If driving, follow the facility's instructions on the day and bring the parking ticket to reception.

The adult price difference is ¥330: Kua Garden is ¥800 versus Shirasagi-no-Yu at ¥470. Kua Garden buys you outdoor pools and several bathing features, including a waterfall shower, three-temperature bath and box steam bath; Shirasagi-no-Yu is the simpler pick for its hinoki tub, tatami washing floor and older public-bath atmosphere.

Kua Garden opens at 8 a.m., two hours earlier than Shirasagi-no-Yu. Tattoo acceptance is not clearly stated in the available facility information, so ask before visiting rather than borrowing another Gero bath's policy.
