Kobo-no-yu at Bird Humming Torigoe: A Practical Visit Guide
Kobo-no-yu in Hakusan costs ¥400 and has a sauna and cold bath. Check its noon opening, Wednesday closure and limited bus service before visiting.
Kobo-no-yu sits within Bird Humming Torigoe, a recreation area in the foothills of Hakusan. The bath itself is simple, but the setting makes more sense when you pair it with the nearby gorge, a meal or another stop in Torigoe rather than driving all this way for a quick soak.
The bath and the ¥400 admission
The current standard price is ¥400 for adults (junior-high age and up), ¥100 for primary-school children and ¥50 for children aged three and older. The public bath has a sauna and cold plunge; the operator lists shampoo, conditioner and body wash. An outdoor bath is not listed, and current pages do not publish towel prices, source temperature or detailed water-treatment figures. Bring your own towels if you want to keep the cost to admission.
The spring is classified as sodium-calcium sulfate. That identifies the water type, but it does not tell you how each tub is heated or circulated. Older analysis figures should not be treated as current operating data.
When to go
Hours are noon to 9pm, with last admission at 8:30pm. The bath closes on Wednesdays; when Wednesday is a national holiday, it closes the following day. Since it does not open in the morning, plan an outdoor stop or lunch first. The wider Bird Humming grounds have seasonal recreation facilities, but their schedules do not necessarily match the bathhouse.
The gorge and the surrounding foothills are the main reason to come out here. If you are driving around Hakusan City, Torigoe or the Tedori River, a soak makes a natural end to the day. From Hakusan Interchange, the tourism association estimates about 50 minutes via Route 157; parking is available at the park.
Public transport takes planning
Hakusan City’s community bus, Meguuru, serves the foothills, but it is a local route with limited departures rather than a frequent sightseeing shuttle. Check the current Yamanroku timetable, the precise stop and your return connection before leaving. The city has also published road and service notices for the Torigoe area, so confirm the latest access information on the day, especially after severe weather. If a missed connection would spoil the day, a car is the simpler choice.
Kobo-no-yu is a good-value stop for drivers who want a sauna and cold bath near the gorge. For mountain scenery from an outdoor pool, Shiramine Onsen Soyu farther south in Hakusan’s mountain settlement is a different sort of visit.
