Hotel New Tsuruta, Beppu: Source-Fed Baths and Bay-Side Rooms
Check Hotel New Tsuruta’s spring-flow details, bay and mountain room choices, dinner schedule, breakfast, parking and access.
Hotel New Tsuruta makes sense if you want a proper public onsen near Kitahama and a short walk from the airport-bus stop. Its sixth-floor bath, Nijōsen, uses two on-site springs and is described as continuously flowing. Guest-room bathrooms are not private hot-spring baths, though, so the room choice is about the view, space and renovation level.
A search for October 28, 2026, showed a one-night room for two at about ¥14,100. Use that only as a dated availability snapshot; it does not represent every room type or meal plan.
The hotel’s spring information describes chloride and bicarbonate spring water and says the bath is continuously supplied, with water added to bring the temperature down. Its main page gives the source as about 60°C; a separate spring chart lists 56°C. Neither figure is a guaranteed tub temperature.
| Use | Current posted hours / charge |
|---|---|
| Overnight guests | 3 p.m.–midnight; 5–9 a.m. |
| Selected day-use dates only | 3–5 p.m.; ¥800 admission, towel ¥200 |
Day-use bathing is limited to selected dates, 3–5 p.m. Call the hotel to check whether day visitors are being accepted on your date.
The public baths also have a shallow relaxation area and a small outdoor pool; the current facility information lists a sauna in the men’s bath only. A parent-friendly washing area is noted, but children aged seven and over are directed to the bath matching their gender.
Pick a room by view and condition
The 48 m² Premium Japanese Modern room faces Beppu Bay and has a large sofa and mini-kitchen. The 55 m² bay-side Japanese room gives families more floor space. Both are larger than the 28 m² standard, casual and economy rooms.
Standard Japanese rooms are on the fifth or sixth floor. Casual Japanese rooms are lower and have a shower room instead of a full bath; the economy room faces the mountains and has a more traditional interior. Two room types have no private bathroom, including the 50 m² wide room for groups. Check the selected plan’s bathroom details before booking.
| Room | Size and outlook | Private bath |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Japanese Modern | 48 m², bay side | Bathroom; not a hot-spring bath |
| Large Japanese room | 55 m², bay side | Bathroom; not a hot-spring bath |
| Standard Japanese room | 28 m², upper-floor bay side | Bathroom; not a hot-spring bath |
| Casual Japanese room | 28 m², bay side | Shower room only |
| Economy Japanese room | 28 m², mountain side | Check the selected plan |
| Out-bath Japanese room | 28 m², mountain side | No private bathroom |
| Wide Japanese room | 50 m², mountain side | No private bathroom |
The room photos and descriptions matter here: the hotel has several generations of rooms, and a lower category may trade a full bathroom or a bay view for price. If you are happy to use Nijōsen every time you bathe, a shower-only room can be a sensible choice. If you want to spend time in the room, the Premium option is the clearest step up.
Check dinner availability for your date
Hotel New Tsuruta does not run dinner every night. The hotel says dinner is generally offered on weekends, with plans built around Bungo beef, seasonal fish and other Oita ingredients. Breakfast is a Japanese-Western buffet from 7 to 9:30 am; a current booking example lists it at ¥2,200 per person. Confirm meal availability and your selected plan for the date before booking. Kitahama also has restaurants nearby if you prefer to eat out.
The hotel is around an eight-minute walk from JR Beppu Station. The Kitahama stop for airport and highway buses is about two minutes away, which is handier if you arrive by bus with luggage. Parking is no longer free: the two designated hotel lots charge up to ¥700 for 21 hours for guests, are first come, first served, and may be full.
Children are welcome. Guests aged seven and over must use the public bath matching their gender. Tattoo policy: Unconfirmed; ask the hotel before booking if it affects your stay.
The building has lifts, but the hotel does not describe a step-free route from them into the changing rooms or baths. Ask about the exact route if anyone in your party needs step-free access.
See our Beppu onsen ryokan guide for other stays with different bath arrangements.
Compare the room’s view and bathroom setup, then confirm whether dinner is served on your date.
