Satoyama-no-yu in Nomi: A Local Bath with an Outdoor Pool and Sauna

Satoyama-no-yu has indoor and outdoor baths, sauna and tatami lounge for ¥520. The last daytime bus toward Nomi-Negishi Station leaves at 6:09 p.m.

Satoyama-no-yu is an easy fit after a day around Nomi, especially if you have a car. The facility has more than a single indoor pool: there is an outdoor bath, sauna, tatami lounge and powder area. It is still a neighbourhood public bath rather than a large spa, and food is not allowed inside.

Admission and facilities

Adults (junior-high age and up) pay ¥520. Children aged three through primary-school age pay ¥100, and children under three enter free. A towel is ¥150; shampoo-and-conditioner combination, body wash, cotton swabs and hairdryers are provided. Admission plus a purchased towel is therefore ¥670 for an adult.

The spring is called Shin-Tatsunokuchi Onsen and classified as a sodium sulfate-chloride spring, weakly alkaline and hypotonic. The city does not publish current source-temperature, pH or flow figures for this facility, nor a complete treatment description for each tub. Do not use measurements from a nearby inn as a stand-in for Satoyama-no-yu.

The bus home is the main constraint

From Nomi-Negishi Station, take the Nomi Bus connecting route toward the Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, get off at Tatsunokuchi Fukushi Kaikan and walk about two minutes. The ride takes roughly 35 minutes and costs ¥100. On the current daytime timetable, the last bus back toward Nomi-Negishi leaves Tatsunokuchi Fukushi Kaikan at 6:09pm and reaches the station around 6:51pm.

The bath stays open until 10pm, with last entry at 9:30pm, but that is not a useful guide to a bus-based visit. Work backwards from the return bus and arrive early enough to enjoy the bath without rushing. For an evening soak, a car, taxi or overnight stay in Tatsunokuchi is more practical. By car, the facility is about 10km east of Nomi-Negishi Smart Interchange, with parking listed for around 100 vehicles.

Opening days and nearby footbath

Satoyama-no-yu opens daily from 10am to 10pm. It closes on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month; if a closure falls on a national holiday, the bath closes the following day. The nearby free footbath has its own schedule: it is generally closed Wednesday mornings for cleaning and all day on the second and fourth Wednesdays. Do not assume the two facilities share identical hours.

The outdoor bath and sauna make Satoyama-no-yu a fuller stop than a basic sento, but its location rewards a Nomi itinerary. If you are staying in central Kanazawa without a car, a bath in Yuwaku will usually take less effort to reach.
