Six Otsu Sento Compared: Sunday Mornings, Late Hours and Access

Compare six Otsu public baths by opening hours, Sunday access, rail links, sauna options and verified ticket rates where available.

Otsu has six public bathhouses worth checking for an everyday soak, but they do not share the same schedule. Two open on Sunday mornings, Otsu-yu runs later than the rest, and the other three have hours listed only in an older city directory. Use the comparison below to match a bath to your route; confirm the schedule before setting out, especially for the city-listed venues.

Otsu City’s directory, last updated April 3, 2025, still names seven baths. Fukui-yu was reported closed in May 2025, and no direct closure notice from its operator is available. The six entries below exclude it; the city page itself warns that hours and closing days can change.

Hours, days off and where each bath fits

Omi-yu3:30–10 p.m. Closed Tue.In the Nishikori area; the city directory does not give a station walk.A local soak if you are already staying nearby. Schedule comes from the April 2025 city directory.
Kagura-yuMon–Thu and Sat 4:30–10 p.m.; Sun and public holidays 4–10 p.m. Closed Fri.Otsu City’s directory gives an address in Chuo; it does not list a station walk.A bath after time in central Otsu, rather than an early start or late-night plan. Schedule comes from the April 2025 city directory.

The city directory’s hours are a useful planning baseline, not a same-day guarantee. That matters most for Yu-Topia Kirishima, Omi-yu and Kagura-yu: their latest schedule I could verify is more than a year old, and current individual ticket prices were not available from an operator page.

Current admission prices

Prices below are the latest individual adult rates listed by the bathhouses. Currency conversions are rough estimates using September 30, 2026 market rates; card conversion may differ.

Shiga’s regulated price ceiling from October 1

The figures below are legal ceilings, not set prices that every bath must charge. The new maximum does not confirm that any particular bath will raise its ticket price; ask the venue for its actual rate.

Age bandThrough Sep 30, 2026From Oct 1, 2026
Adult (12+)¥490 (about HK$24 / NT$99)¥550 (about HK$27 / NT$111)
School-age child (6–11)¥150 (about HK$7 / NT$30)¥200 (about HK$10 / NT$40)
Child under 6¥100 (about HK$5 / NT$20)¥100 (about HK$5 / NT$20)

Each bathhouse sets its own admission at or below the applicable ceiling. Sauna access, towel rental and toiletries may cost extra.

Choosing by time of day, sauna or route

For a Sunday start, the choice is between the Zeze and Ishiyama sides. Miyako-yu is closest to JR Zeze Station and has the clearer sauna setup: its operator lists a sauna, cold bath, electric bath and jet bath. Yokiyu suits an Ishiyama-bound route and brings more architectural character, including a karahafu roof and hand-painted tilework. Yokiyu accepts cash and PayPay.

Otsu-yu is the late-night fallback. Its current LINE listing shows daily opening and a range of cashless payment options; the operator’s blog gives the admission and sauna charges above. The same listing includes parking, but does not provide a walking time from the nearby stations, so check your return route if you are not driving.

Third-party sauna listings describe a dry sauna, cold bath and outdoor rest area at Yu-Topia Kirishima, but the current setup is not confirmed on a direct operator page. Call first if those facilities are the reason for going. For Omi-yu and Kagura-yu, published details are too limited for an equipment-by-equipment comparison; proximity is the safer basis for choosing either one.

Groundwater, natural hot springs and tattoo rules

Miyako-yu and Yokiyu describe groundwater as part of their bathing experience. Groundwater alone does not establish a legally designated natural hot spring, and no spring-quality analyses are cited for these six baths. For a natural-spring visit, see the Shiga day-use onsen comparison.

A current tattoo policy could not be confirmed consistently for all six. Ask the bathhouse you plan to visit; the Shiga tattoo and onsen guide covers facilities with published policies.

For the wider prefecture, start with the Shiga sento directory. The Moriyama Yumoto Suisyun guide and Kusatsu Yumoto Suisyun guide cover larger bathing complexes, a different product from a neighborhood sento.
