Kaga Onsen in Osaka: Twin Saunas and a Garlic-Scented Outdoor Bath

This Ikuno Ward sento has dry and steam saunas, a garlic outdoor bath and two free parking spaces. Check its early 10pm close and station walk.

This is the Kaga Onsen sento at 4-3-37 Tatsuminishi in Ikuno Ward, Osaka—not the hot-spring area in Ishikawa or the separate bathhouse in Higashiosaka. It has a fresh-garlic outdoor bath and dry and steam saunas. It closes at 10pm, so it is not a late-night option.

The Osaka Public Bath Association lists hours of 2pm–10pm; the bath closes on the second and fourth Sunday of the month.

Admission is the current Osaka sento rate: ¥600 for adults, ¥200 for elementary-school children and ¥100 for younger children. The association confirms both sauna types but does not publish a current surcharge. Some third-party summaries say they are included, but the evidence is not strong enough to promise that; bring a little extra cash and ask at the desk.

Check that you have the right Kaga Onsen

The address is 4-3-37 Tatsuminishi, Ikuno Ward, and the nearest station is Minami-Tatsumi on the Sennichimae Line. The same name is used for Kaga Onsen in Inada-shinmachi, Higashiosaka, near Tokuan; its hours, facilities and sauna charges are different. Search results may mix their photos and reviews, so confirm the Ikuno address before setting out.

Ishikawa’s Kaga Onsen Station and the larger hot-spring towns of Yamashiro and Katayamazu are a completely different destination. Searching only “Kaga Onsen” can send you to the wrong prefecture or the wrong public bath.

Hours, price and the main constraint

The current association listing, updated October 14, 2025, gives 2pm–10pm, closed on the second and fourth Sundays. Osaka City’s current ward directory lists the same hours. That is earlier than many Ikuno bathhouses, some of which stay open until 11:30pm or later. If you want a shower, several baths and both saunas, arrive by about 8:30–9pm; there is no published last-entry time.

If dinner runs late or you want a more modern sauna with timed water pouring, consider Fukutoku Onsen, Shusseyu or Megane Onsen instead. Kaga is an afternoon or early-evening choice, not a midnight rescue.

Dry and steam saunas, with no scheduled auto-loyly

The association’s current facility list confirms both a dry sauna and a wet/steam sauna. A 2025–26 visitor article describes the pair as an unusual feature for a local bathhouse; it also mentions cable music and old Showa-era songs playing in the dry room. That mix suits someone who wants a conventional neighborhood sento with a little personality rather than a polished, event-led sauna.

User listings have shown dry-sauna readings from roughly 80°C into the 90s and cold-bath readings around 18–20°C. These are visit-specific readings, not fixed settings. Kaga does not list automatic water-pouring or self-loyly. If you want an iki heater and scheduled water pouring, Megane Onsen is a closer match; Kaga is more about trying two traditional sauna styles under one roof.

The sauna surcharge is unclear. The association does not list one, and some secondary pages call both rooms free, but their update dates and reliability are not strong enough to treat that as current policy. Ask before entering, especially if you are bringing only the ¥600 base fare.

The garlic bath and the bathhouse’s oddball character

The outdoor tub is listed as a fresh-garlic bath. The association says the bath does not leave a garlic smell on your body. That is the facility’s own description; if the themed bath is the whole reason for your visit, call to make sure it is running that day. A 2022 visitor once found the outdoor tub set up differently, but that older single visit does not override the association’s October 2025 listing.

The bathhouse has more character than a new minimalist sento: a visitor feature describes animal decorations, a koi-patterned floor, frogs and other playful details with a small “safari park” feel. It is not luxury design or a natural landscape. Go if you enjoy a local bathhouse with its own quirks; choose Pearl Onsen or COCOFURO if you want a more deliberate modern interior.

The association also lists an electric bath, cold bath, reclining bath and charcoal feature. Nifty Onsen’s current facility summary adds a main bath, bubble bath and infrared jet/clinic-style bath. Even without a sauna, the ¥600 admission buys a range of options rather than one hot pool.

Getting there and parking

From Minami-Tatsumi Station, allow about 10–12 minutes on foot; the association gives a 10-minute estimate. For a first visit through the residential streets, 10–15 minutes is safer than relying on straight-line distance. The bathhouse has two free parking spaces. They are useful if you live in south Ikuno or are already driving through, but they can fill; Fukutoku Onsen has 11 spaces if parking capacity is more important than the garlic bath.

There are bus stops near the Tatsuminami elementary-school area, but the cited material does not establish a dependable route and timetable. Check the Osaka City Bus service for your travel date rather than planning around a single map pin.

Kaga Onsen or Fukutoku Onsen?

Choose Kaga for the garlic outdoor bath, old-school character and an earlier 10pm finish, with two free parking spaces. Choose Fukutoku if soft water throughout, more functional tubs, a Finnish-style dry sauna plus steam, salt outdoor bath and 11 parking spaces fit better; it is listed open until 11pm. Neither is supported by a current natural-spring analysis, and neither is a midnight bathhouse. If you are staying around Minami-Tatsumi, one well-matched visit is usually enough—you do not need to visit both in one evening.
