Futabaya in Kusatsu: A Simple Stay Near Yubatake with a Private Bath

Futabaya is better thought of as a convenient base than a destination hotel. Yubatake is about a minute away on foot, and the inn’s two small private baths give couples or friends a way to soak together without using a large shared bath. The trade-off is a simpler stay: modest rooms, limited in-room bathing and fewer on-site services.

The private baths are the main on-site hot-spring feature

The inn added two small private-use baths in 2024. Current accommodation information identifies them with Yubatake spring and kakenagashi flow. They are separate from the guest rooms, so check how access is handled for your plan and whether any timing limit applies on your stay date.

Futabaya is not a large-bath or spa property. It does not advertise a big open-air bath, sauna or cold plunge. Nor does the room bathroom itself count as a private onsen. If you want to soak privately without leaving the building, make sure your plan includes the private bath access you expect; if you want a natural spring in your room, choose another inn.

Why the location works for a room-only trip

With Yubatake roughly a minute away, Futabaya makes it easy to build the evening around the town rather than the hotel. You can walk out for dinner, return to change, and visit the central area again without depending on a shuttle. The public baths and footbaths nearby also give the stay a simple rhythm: sleep at the inn, bathe and eat around town.

That flexibility is most useful for travellers who do not need dinner service at their accommodation. Breakfast is not a reliable daily feature, so treat the stay as room-only unless your actual reservation clearly includes a meal. Check opening hours for nearby restaurants if you will arrive late or visit outside the busiest season.

Read the room and parking details carefully

The inn has a small number of rooms, and the more affordable categories can be compact. Some room types do not have a shower. If a private wash space is important, confirm the exact category rather than relying on a room photo or a broad “bathroom” label.

Parking is limited and should be arranged in advance. Current listings differ on the fee, so confirm the charge and availability directly with the inn before driving. The central location is useful for walking, but it is not a reason to assume you can pull up at the door or leave a car there without a reservation.
