Gokurakuyu Ibaraki: Natural Hot Springs Near JR Sojiji
Compare Gokurakuyu Ibaraki’s ¥600 public bath and Royal ticket, including natural spring baths, sauna access, early hours and the JR Sojiji walk.
Gokurakuyu Ibaraki sits about six minutes on foot from JR Sojiji Station and stays open until 2 a.m. Its two admission options cover different parts of the facility: the ¥600 Public Bath ticket is for indoor bathing, while Royal includes the outdoor baths and saunas.
Pick between the two admission plans
| Adult admission | Weekdays | Weekends and holidays | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public bath | ¥600 | ¥600 | Basic indoor bathing area |
| Royal | ¥900 | ¥980 | Full bathing area, including outdoor baths and saunas |
The ¥600 Public Bath ticket is cash-only, excludes the open-air area and both saunas, and does not allow re-entry. Royal admission includes those areas; its weekday and holiday prices are in the table above.
For an indoor soak, the ¥600 plan covers the basics. Royal adds the outdoor baths and saunas. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided; towels can be rented or bought at the counter, so ask for the day's price if you need one.
The natural spring is used in selected baths
The spring is a sodium-calcium chloride hot spring. Natural spring water is used in the outdoor rock bath and mineral bath; the high-concentration carbonated bath uses spring water with added carbon dioxide. The carbonation comes from the bath system, not from a naturally carbonated source.
The bath information identifies these uses, but does not say that every tub is filled with untreated source water. It is safer to describe the specific baths than to call the entire complex free-flowing.
Sauna, late hours and an early weekend start
Royal admission includes an auto-loyly sauna and a steam sauna, with a cold plunge nearby. Special sauna sessions vary by date; check the event calendar if you are timing your visit around one.
On weekdays, the doors open at 8 a.m. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, they open at 6 a.m. The bathhouse closes at 2 a.m.; last admission is 1:30 a.m. Arriving at the last minute leaves little time to bathe, change and get back to the station, even if the building is technically still open.
Getting there
JR Sojiji Station's north exit is the easiest route on foot, at roughly six minutes. Hankyu Ibaraki-shi Station is also walkable, though the trip takes around 18 minutes. There is a bus option from Hankyu Ibaraki-shi, and drivers can use the facility's 180 free parking spaces; the lot can fill during busy periods.
The JR location makes this a practical stop if your day is already on the Osaka–Kyoto corridor. It is less convenient if you would need to cross the city just for a bath.
When a nearby bath is a better fit
Sumire-no-yu charges adults ¥900 on weekdays and ¥1,000 on holidays; it has a broader bath lineup and a Korean-style heated room. Banpaku Oyuba charges ¥950 and ¥1,050 on those days, respectively, and publishes spring figures of 25.3°C, pH 6.5 and 100 litres per minute. It also sits closer to Expo ’70 Commemorative Park and EXPOCITY. Gokurakuyu is the nearest option to JR Sojiji and opens early on weekends.
Tattoo and child entry rules
Tattoos and tattoo cover stickers are not permitted. Children aged seven or older, and children at least 120 cm tall, may not enter a bath assigned to the opposite sex. Children must visit with an adult; preschoolers may not use the sauna. There are no private baths, so guests bathe in the men's or women's area.
