Mount View Hakone: Rooms, Sulfur Baths and Access

Mount View Hakone has milky sulfur baths and three paid private sessions booked on arrival. Most rooms lack a private bathroom; buses stop outside.

At Mount View Hakone, the key booking choice is whether you are comfortable sharing the bathroom. Most room categories use a shared bathroom; two larger Japanese-Western rooms add a bathtub, but the inn does not identify those tubs as natural hot spring baths. The milky sulfur water is in the shared outdoor baths, with three bookable private outdoor baths if you want to soak alone or with your travel party.

That setup suits someone who wants a proper onsen stay without paying for a spring-fed bath in the room. It is less convincing if you need a private bathroom at any hour or want to guarantee a particular private-bath slot before arrival.

The room name matters less than its bathroom line

The inn lists 37 rooms. Its 21-square-metre Standard Japanese Room sleeps up to three and uses a shared bathroom. The Japanese-style bed room is also 21 square metres, with two single beds and a shared bathroom; the single-occupancy options are smaller, at 10 or 15 square metres, and share the bathroom too.

The two categories with an in-room tub are both for two adults. The 23.1-square-metre Japanese-Western Superior Twin has twin beds and a claw-foot bathtub. The 46-square-metre Deluxe Twin, called Fuyō, pairs a tatami living area with a bedroom and a private stone tub; the inn also mentions a distant view towards the susuki grassland. Neither room description says the tub uses the sulfur spring. If room privacy is the priority, these are more comfortable bathroom arrangements, but they are not confirmed in-room onsen.

The difference is worth checking against the price on your dates. If a private natural spring bath is non-negotiable, compare a room that explicitly lists one rather than relying on “bathtub” or “private bath” in a room name. The Hakone room-bath guide separates ordinary tubs from rooms supplied with spring water; the Hakone private-bath comparison covers the other way to get privacy.

Three private baths, but you book after you arrive

Kaguya¥3,00045 minutesYes
Kingyo¥3,00045 minutesYes

These baths are for overnight guests. Reserve at check-in; the hotel does not take advance reservations by phone.

That timing changes the decision. If you arrive late, or have a particular slot in mind around dinner, availability is not something you can lock in when you book the room. Ask at the desk as soon as you check in. For anyone who would avoid the shared baths altogether, one 45-minute booking may not cover every shower and soak during a multi-night stay; a room with its own bathroom is still useful, even though its tub is not listed as a hot spring.

The shared baths may suit guests who want more than one soak. Men’s and women’s outdoor baths use the inn’s cloudy sulfur spring and are listed as open 24 hours to overnight guests. The property describes both shared and private outdoor baths as flow-through.

You can return before bed or in the morning without booking another session. The private baths offer privacy and time with family or a partner, not a different spring source.

If you are comparing the water itself with other stays, the Hakone sulfur onsen guide looks across properties. For an inn where every room has its own bath, see the Hakone Yuyado Zen stay guide; its room setup is quite different from Mount View’s shared-bath-first arrangement.

Getting there is simple once you are on the right bus

The stop is Sengokuhara Bunka Center-mae, immediately outside the inn. Mount View’s access page estimates about 25 minutes from Hakone-Yumoto by the Hakone Tozan Bus and about 50 minutes from Odawara. The timetable is changing on October 1, 2026, so those estimates should not replace checking the departure for your travel date. From Shinjuku, the hotel also lists a highway bus to the same stop.

The bus stops directly outside, so you do not need a hotel shuttle or a final walk along a side road. Road buses can run late in Hakone traffic; leave a buffer before a timed dinner or post-checkout connection.

Check-in is listed from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dinner guests are asked to arrive by 6 p.m.; later arrivals may miss dinner. Check-out is between 7:30 and 10 a.m.

The hotel says it can hold bags before check-in and after checkout, and Hakone’s baggage service can send luggage from Hakone-Yumoto to the property. For a wider bus-and-ropeway plan, the Hakone car-free loop guide lays out the transfers; the Hakone stay-area guide helps decide whether Sengokuhara fits the rest of your route.

When a night here makes sense

Mount View is a strong fit if the point of staying overnight is to use a milky sulfur bath more than once, and you are happy to use a shared bathroom for the standard room categories. It also works well for a no-car Sengokuhara stay because the bus stop is at the door. Book a room with an en-suite tub if that convenience matters, but treat it as a bathtub unless the specific plan confirms otherwise. The private outdoor baths are a useful extra, not a guaranteed room feature: their time slots are chosen only at check-in.

If you only want one soak between sightseeing stops, a day visit may be enough; the Hakone day trip or overnight guide weighs that choice. For a property-by-property look at the neighborhood, compare Mount View with other local stays in the Sengokuhara onsen guide.
