Furofushi Onsen Day Trip: Bathing Hours, Fees and the Sea-Bath Reality
A day ticket covers three bathing areas at Furofushi Onsen. The seaside bath closes to day visitors at 4 p.m. and may shut earlier in rough weather.
Checked: September 27, 2026 Koganezaki Furofushi Onsen is on the Sea of Japan coast in Fukaura, Aomori. Its rust-coloured seaside bath is the image most people come for, though a day visit involves more than stepping into that one pool. The main building, new annex and shoreline bath have different hours and are not all connected indoors. Timing the day around them matters.
The three bathing windows

Pay admission in cash at the main entrance. The shoreline area also has a women-only bath.
The overlap is tight. Arriving around 10:30 a.m. gives you time for the annex before its 1:30 p.m. final admission, while leaving room for the other two baths. That is a practical window, not a promise that every pool will be open; the staff may limit entry when the facility is busy.
Wash indoors before the shoreline bath
The seaside bath has no shower facilities. The hotel asks day visitors to wash at the indoor bath first, then change and walk outside to the shore. It is not a place to rinse off after bathing, and the shoreline pool is separate from the main building’s indoor bath.
High waves can bring seawater into the seaside pool. Thunderstorms, maintenance or crowd controls may also close it before the posted end time. In winter, wind and low temperatures can make the women’s pool too cold to use; in summer, horseflies and biting midges may be present along the coast.
Photography is prohibited at the seaside bath. The hotel does not admit bathers with tattoos.
A sunset trip calls for an overnight booking
Day visitors must leave the shoreline bath by 4 p.m. The inn recommends sunset as the best time for the seaside view, but that evening window is for overnight guests. If seeing the sun drop into the Sea of Japan is your main reason for coming, book a stay rather than trying to stretch the day-use ticket.
For a shorter visit, the adjacent dining room serves Fukaura tuna steak bowls from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with last orders at 1:45 p.m. It is a useful lunch stop, but leave enough time for the baths and the journey back; this is a remote coastal destination, not a quick detour from central Aomori.
Getting there without guessing at the train connection
WeSPa-Tsubakiyama is the nearest station on the JR Gono Line, and the hotel lists a shuttle ride of roughly five minutes. The shuttle reservation rules differ by train: guests on the Resort Shirakami can use the service without reserving, while passengers on ordinary local trains need to book. Check the current train and shuttle times together before buying a ticket; a station being close does not mean the connection is frequent.
By car, use coastal National Route 101. The hotel warns against the inland Shirakami Line route, which is a forest road and unsuitable as a shortcut. Fukaura is a long drive from Aomori City or Akita, so plan the day around the coast rather than treating the bath as a quick city excursion.
