Ryokan Near Arima Onsen Station: Five Options for a Low-Friction Arrival

Compare five Arima ryokan by station and bus access, shuttle hours, last-mile slopes and bath options—useful when luggage or an evening soak shapes your stay.

Updated September 2026

In Arima Onsen, a short walk on the map can end with a steep slope at the front door. For luggage, the useful comparison is how you get from the station or bus stop to reception—and whether the inn can bring you back after an evening out. These five properties cover the main options, from a two-minute walk to a hillside stay that relies on its shuttle.

For a suitcase and an early departure: Arima Gyoen

Arima Gyoen is the clearest choice if you want to walk rather than wait for a ride. The station and highway bus stop are both about two minutes away, and the inn does not run a regular shuttle. That makes an early bus departure or a rainy check-in easier to plan.

The bathing options are stronger than the location alone suggests: the public bath has Kinsen and Ginsen, while four Fuyozanso rooms have private outdoor Ginsen baths. Those room baths are specific to the named categories, not a feature of every room. Guests with tattoos are not permitted to use the public bath; check directly with the inn about the private rooms if that affects your booking.

Zuien works especially well for highway-bus arrivals

Nakanobo Zuien is about a two-minute walk from the Arima Onsen bus stop and offers a free shuttle within town. Children under 13 are not accepted. The inn is a useful match for adults who want to stay centrally while adding more private bathing options: there is a free private Ginsen bath, a paid reservable Kinsen bath, and selected rooms with natural spring water.

Its later checkout and adults-only policy also make the stay feel quite different from a family ryokan. Tattoo rules for the public baths are restrictive; ask the property which private bath or room options, if any, are suitable before paying a non-refundable rate.

Negiya’s last slope is the part to plan around

Negiya Ryofukaku is roughly a seven-minute walk from the station, but the approach to the entrance is steep. The inn’s shuttle runs from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 8 p.m.; call when you arrive at Arima Onsen Station. It can also arrange rides around town, though waits are possible when requests overlap.

That schedule makes arrival with bags straightforward during service hours. For a late visit to Kin no Yu or dinner in town, ask how you will get back once the shuttle has stopped. The public bath uses Kinsen, and two private Kinsen baths are available for an extra fee. The baths attached to some guest rooms are not natural hot springs, so do not use “open-air bath” as a proxy for Kinsen.

Hanamusubi is easy to use if you call for pickup

Hanamusubi is about a 10-minute walk from the station and provides a free pickup from Arima Onsen Station and the bus terminal. Call after arrival rather than walking the hill with heavy luggage. The property has public Kinsen and Ginsen, a 45-minute private Kinsen bath called Hanagokoro, and selected rooms with their own Kinsen bath.

It gives families more flexibility than the adults-only inns. A standard room can be paired with a single private-bath session if one is available; a room upgrade is only necessary for a private spring in the room. The pickup page covers station and bus-stop transfers, not an all-evening town shuttle, so confirm how you will return after a late outing.

Taketoritei is shuttle-first, not station-adjacent

The walk to Taketoritei Maruyama takes about 15 minutes. Its free shuttle runs from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; call after you reach the train station or bus stop. Guests can also use it to travel between the inn and the hot-spring town after check-in.

The reason to stay here is private bathing, not a short walk. The inn has eight private baths with both Kinsen and Ginsen, and overnight guests can use them without an extra bath charge.

The free shuttle runs until 9 p.m., so the cutoff matters if you plan to stay out late. The inn has also announced that dinner service ends after December 30, 2026; from 2027, check the available meal plan rather than assuming the traditional two-meal setup.

Let your evening plan decide

If you want the least complicated walk with bags, Arima Gyoen is the straightforward pick. Zuien is similarly convenient from the highway bus stop, with the added trade-off of its under-13 age restriction. Negiya and Hanamusubi are manageable when you use the pickup, but their shuttle arrangements do not mean a car is always available late at night. Taketoritei suits guests who value its private baths enough to plan around a 9 p.m. shuttle finish.
