Nakanobo Zuien vs Takayamaso Hanano: Two Quiet Arima Ryokan, Two Bathing Styles
Takayamaso Hanano offers public Kinsen and Ginsen. Nakanobo Zuien has Kinsen publicly, with Ginsen in a free private bath or selected rooms.

Both inns set age limits for children, but their bathing arrangements differ. Takayamaso Hanano gives standard-room guests public Kinsen and Ginsen in the same bath area. Nakanobo Zuien's public baths are Kinsen-only; Ginsen is available in a free private bath or selected rooms, and a private Kinsen bath can be booked for a fee.
The practical choice is between both springs in a public bath at Hanano and private Ginsen access at Zuien.
Public baths: Hanano has both springs; Zuien keeps Ginsen private
At Hanano, the public bath Star no Yu pairs an indoor Kinsen bath with an outdoor Ginsen bath. If you are comfortable using the gender-separated public baths, a standard room is enough to try both.
Zuien's public baths, Zuisen and Sosen, use Kinsen. Guests can use its free, lockable outdoor bath for a private Ginsen soak.
For a private soak together, Zuien is easier without a suite
Zuien has a free outdoor Ginsen bath and a reservation-only Kinsen family bath, Jusen, which costs ¥4,400 per session. A standard room includes the public Kinsen bath and access to private Ginsen; Jusen adds a private Kinsen soak. Confirm the fee and availability for your date before booking.
Hanano has no bookable private bath. Its five hot-spring suites have either Ginsen, or both Kinsen and Ginsen: Oyamarenge and Sanshuyu have both; Yamaboshi, Hakkakuren and Futaba-aoi are primarily Ginsen rooms.

Zuien lets guests add a private soak while keeping a standard room. Hanano's standard rooms suit guests who are happy to use the public baths for both springs.
A longer stay at Zuien; a smaller, hilltop setting at Hanano
Zuien's usual check-in is 2 p.m. and checkout is noon, leaving up to about 22 hours at the inn. The bus stop is about a two-minute walk away, and a free shuttle serves Arima. The town is hilly, so the short walk is especially useful with luggage.
Hanano has 15 rooms, with flowers, art and Japanese architecture shaping the interiors. It sits uphill: about 20 stone steps lead from the car park to reception, and another flight of roughly 20 steps reaches the public bath. The property is not fully accessible. Afternoon pickup runs from 2:30–6 p.m., with morning drop-offs to the station; arrange the transfer in advance if stairs are a concern.
Age limits and tattoos
Zuien does not accept children under 13, even at the adult rate. Hanano does not admit children aged 12 or younger, including infants. Alternatives are covered in the family-friendly and adults-only Arima ryokan guide.
Tattoos are not allowed in Zuien's public baths. Permission for its private baths and in-room springs depends on the specific arrangement. Hanano's tattoo rules are not specified for every bathing space; confirm access to the public bath and any private room before booking a non-refundable plan.

Compare the same date, meal plan and cancellation terms. Match room categories too: standard room with public bathing, Zuien standard room plus private bath, a Ginsen suite, or a room with both springs.
